Andrei Rodrigues, the director-general of the Federal Police, said the investigation into the Jan. 8, 2023, attacks on the Three Powers has concluded [1].
This closure marks a transition from the active evidence-gathering phase to the legal determination of penalties for those involved in the riots. The shift signals that the primary police work to identify perpetrators and map the events of that day is complete.
Rodrigues described the process as rigorous and thorough. "The investigation carried out regarding the attack on the Three Powers on January 8, 2023, was intense and delivered consistent results," Rodrigues said [1].
According to the director-general, the Federal Police have officially transferred the matter to the legislative process involving the Dosimetry Bill. This bill focuses on the calibration of sentences, and legal penalties for the participants of the unrest.
"With the progress of the Dosimetry Bill, the agenda no longer belongs to the PF, which concluded its work on the investigation," Rodrigues said [1].
The investigation focused on the breach of government buildings in Brasília, where protesters attempted to overturn election results. By moving the case toward the Dosimetry Bill, the focus shifts from criminal discovery to the judicial application of law and sentencing guidelines.
“The investigation carried out regarding the attack on the Three Powers on January 8, 2023, was intense and delivered consistent results.”
The conclusion of the Federal Police probe means the state's primary investigative phase is over, shifting the responsibility to the judiciary and legislative bodies. The transition to the Dosimetry Bill indicates that the legal battle is now centered on the severity of sentencing and the standardization of punishments for the rioters, rather than the search for new evidence or suspects.
