BTS has launched a limited-edition Oreo collaboration titled “Destined” to mark the group's reunion after completing mandatory military service [1, 3].
The partnership signals the full return of the global music icons to the public eye. By leveraging a worldwide brand like Oreo, the group is re-establishing its commercial presence following a multi-year hiatus caused by national service requirements.
The project involves all seven members: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook [1]. The collaboration serves as a celebration of their comeback and a nod to the group's history. According to the project's goals, the launch is intended to pay homage to their early days as trainees [3, 4].
Jin was the first to return, having been discharged in March 2024 [2]. His mandatory service lasted 18 months [2]. The remaining members followed suit throughout 2024, allowing the group to reunite as a full ensemble for the first time in years [1, 2].
During an exclusive video with E! News, RM reflected on the group's long history and the passage of time since their beginnings. He connected the current reunion to the group's early creative efforts.
"I want to say this. Back when we were trainees, we released a song called ‘A Typical Trainee’s Christmas.’ That was 14 years ago," RM said [4].
The “Destined” collaboration is available globally through Oreo's distribution channels [3]. The project aims to bridge the gap between the group's current global superstardom and the humble origins they experienced before their official debut.
“The group launched the “Destined” project to celebrate their reunion following the completion of South Korea's mandatory military service.”
The reunion of BTS and the subsequent partnership with a global brand like Oreo demonstrate the group's enduring marketability after a significant period of absence. By framing the comeback around their trainee days, the group is strengthening its emotional connection with a long-term fanbase while transitioning back into a full-time commercial and musical cycle.
