Large crowds gathered at Haeundae Beach in Busan as a nationwide heat wave drove people to seek relief by the sea.
The surge in visitors highlights the intense summer temperatures currently affecting South Korea, forcing residents to migrate toward coastal areas to escape the oppressive heat.
Reporter 김종호 said waves higher than an adult's height were crashing onto the shore with loud noise. The influx of people has turned the area into a primary destination for those fleeing the urban heat.
Visitors reported that the seaside conditions provided a necessary reprieve. Seo Jeong-hee and Kang So-jeong, who visited Gwangalli before arriving at Haeundae, said the weather was not as hot as expected, and the wind was cool enough to make it a perfect place to spend the day.
An anchor for YTN News said that the scorching heat has hit the entire country, causing the crowds to swarm Haeundae Beach, which is often regarded as the top spot for summer vacations. The beach continues to serve as a critical pressure valve for the population during these peak temperature events.

The mass migration to Busan's coast during extreme heat underscores the growing reliance on natural coastal cooling as urban centers become increasingly uninhabitable during summer peaks. This trend reflects a broader pattern of seasonal climate stress in South Korea, where public infrastructure and tourism hubs must manage sudden, massive population shifts driven by weather extremes.
