Cambridge International Education (CIE) confirmed that an AS Level Mathematics examination paper was leaked ahead of the June 2026 [1] series.
The breach threatens the integrity of a standardized qualification used by students globally to secure university admissions. Because the leak affects multiple regions, the organization must determine if the compromised paper can still be graded or if a replacement is necessary.
The leak specifically involved paper 12 [2]. The document was "shared prematurely against our regulations," a spokesperson said.
CIE has launched a formal investigation into the breach to determine the extent of the compromise and to decide on the next steps for affected candidates. The leak impacted regions where the paper was administered, including Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan, and South Asia [1], [2].
Earlier this week, the organization acknowledged the situation as reports began to surface. "We are aware of the reports and are investigating the matter," CIE said.
While some initial reports referred to the incident as an A-Level leak, the organization confirmed the breach specifically concerned the AS Level Mathematics paper [1], [2]. The investigation aims to identify how the paper was accessed and shared before the scheduled examination date.
“"shared prematurely against our regulations"”
This incident highlights the vulnerability of digital examination distribution in an era of instant communication. For CIE, the primary challenge is maintaining the validity of the June 2026 series; if the leak is widespread, the organization may be forced to void the results of paper 12 or issue a substitute exam, which would cause significant logistical disruptions for schools and students across five global regions.
