Chet Hanks has moved into a Nashville trailer park to support his country-music career with his band, Something Out West [1, 3].
The move highlights a shift in the lifestyle of the 35-year-old [1] as he pivots toward the center of the U.S. country music industry. By opting for a mobile living arrangement, Hanks is prioritizing his artistic pursuits over traditional real estate in Tennessee.
Hanks discussed the living situation during an appearance on The Tonight Show on April 28, 2026 [2, 4]. He is currently residing in a Jayco Eagle RV [2]. This choice of housing allows him to remain in Nashville without the commitment of a long-term lease or a second permanent residence.
"I didn’t want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it," Hanks said [1].
He said the decision was practical, as he did not want to maintain two separate homes while focusing on his music. Despite the unconventional nature of living in a trailer park, Hanks expressed satisfaction with the arrangement.
"I’m really happy with it," Hanks said [3].
He also addressed potential misconceptions about his current living conditions. "It’s not what you think," Hanks said [5].
The musician's transition to Nashville comes as he continues to develop his sound with Something Out West. The move places him in direct proximity to the industry's songwriting and recording hubs, a strategic choice for any aspiring country artist.
“"I didn’t want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it."”
Hanks' decision to live in an RV reflects a trend of 'nomadic' professionalism where artists prioritize proximity to industry hubs over luxury housing. By avoiding the overhead of a second permanent home, he reduces financial risk while attempting to establish a foothold in the competitive Nashville music scene.
