The Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT) and OXXO Gas have opened the first secure rest stop for cargo transport operators in Chihuahua.
The facility addresses critical safety gaps on high-traffic corridors by providing long-distance drivers with a dedicated space to rest and refuel. By reducing driver fatigue, the project aims to lower the risk of accidents on one of the region's busiest transit routes.
Located at kilometer 31+498 of Federal Highway 45 on the Chihuahua-El Sueco stretch in the Majalca area [3], the complex covers more than 35,000 square meters [4]. The project required an investment of more than 100 million Mexican pesos [1].
The "parador seguro" is designed specifically for the needs of logistics professionals. It includes 37 dedicated parking spaces for transporters [5], as well as integrated services including fuel stations, showers, and restaurants. To support vehicle maintenance and connectivity, the site features a mechanic shop and Wi-Fi access.
Beyond the immediate utility for drivers, the development has an economic impact on the local region. The project has generated over 200 direct and indirect jobs [6].
The collaboration between the federal government and the private sector focuses on creating a scalable model for road safety. The facility serves as a hub where travelers and cargo operators can access essential services without leaving the safety of a monitored environment.

This initiative represents a shift toward integrated infrastructure that treats driver wellness as a component of highway safety.
