The current season has already seen significant devastation across the country. In southwestern China, Typhoon Maysak caused at least 159 deaths [6]. Typhoon Dolphin caused widespread disruption on the eastern coast. Authorities evacuated more than 1 million people to avoid the storm's path [3, 4]. During its passage, the typhoon recorded winds reaching 150 kilometres per hour [5].

Heavy rainfall has plagued the southern province of Guangxi. In some parts of the region, more than 250 millimetres of rain fell [1]. These deluge levels have increased the risk of flooding, and landslides in mountainous areas.
