The Congress party is likely to push for the use of 2025 electoral rolls for the upcoming Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) polls [1].
This move is intended to circumvent scheduling delays caused by the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. If the current revision process is required for the vote, the elections could be pushed back significantly, altering the political timeline in Karnataka.
The Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls currently under way is expected to be completed only by Oct. 7 [1]. By advocating for the use of the 2025 lists, Congress seeks to ensure the polls are held sooner rather than waiting for the completion of the SIR process.
However, the proposal has met with political opposition. HD Kumaraswamy said it was misleading people over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to cover up its own failures [2].
The dispute centers on whether the older rolls provide a sufficiently accurate representation of the current electorate, or if the delay until October is necessary to ensure electoral integrity. The GBA polls remain a focal point for regional governance and party influence in the area.
“Congress is likely to push for the use of the 2025 electoral rolls”
The tension over the electoral rolls highlights a strategic clash between the need for administrative accuracy and the desire for political expediency. By pushing for the 2025 rolls, Congress is attempting to accelerate the election timeline, while opponents view this as an attempt to bypass a more rigorous voter verification process.
