Lawyers for ex-banker Daniel Vorcaro requested the transfer of the Banco Master owner to the Papudinha prison complex on Thursday [1].

The request highlights a legal dispute over the detention conditions of a high-profile financial figure while he remains in custody in the Distrito Federal.

Vorcaro is currently held in a cell at the Superintendência da Polícia Federal in the Distrito Federal [3]. His defense team filed the request on May 21, 2026 [1], asking that he be moved to the 19th Batalhão da Polícia Militar, which is part of the Complexo Penitenciário da Papuda, commonly known as Papudinha [2].

The defense said that the current conditions within the Federal Police detention cell are inadequate. They said that the Papudinha facility would provide more appropriate conditions for Vorcaro [1].

This request comes amid conflicting views regarding the banker's placement. While the defense seeks the move to the military police battalion, the Federal Police have asked the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that Vorcaro be returned to a federal prison, stating there are no reasons for him to remain at the Superintendência [1].

The STF has not yet ruled on the competing requests for the ex-banker's relocation. The legal team for Vorcaro continues to maintain that the current environment is unsuitable for his detention.

The defense argues that the conditions in the Federal Police detention cell are inadequate

The struggle over Vorcaro's detention location reflects a common tension in high-profile Brazilian legal cases, where the defense seeks facilities with perceived better conditions or specific security protocols while the state prioritizes strict federal custody. The decision by the STF will determine whether Vorcaro remains under police supervision or is integrated into the broader penitentiary system.
