Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for the new Forest City Park on Hiranki Road in Delhi this Friday.

The project represents a push to expand urban green spaces and combat deteriorating air quality in the capital. By establishing a dedicated "Oxygen Park," the administration aims to fulfill development promises specifically targeted at villages and historically backward areas.

"This will be Delhi’s first large Oxygen Park," Gupta said.

The initiative is part of a broader financial commitment to regional infrastructure. Gupta said the government is allocating ₹1.03 lakh crore [1] for the 2026-27 budget to develop villages and backward areas.

This focus on development comes amid strict oversight of current government spending. The chief minister has previously signaled a crackdown on inefficiency in public works. "No negligence will be tolerated in works," Gupta said.

According to government records, projects valued at Rs 3,786 crore [2] are currently under review to ensure compliance and quality. The Forest City Park is intended to serve as a blueprint for future environmental projects that integrate ecological restoration with the needs of underdeveloped districts.

By prioritizing Hiranki Road for this development, the administration is signaling a shift toward decentralizing green infrastructure. The park is designed to act as a carbon sink, and provide a public recreational space for residents who previously lacked access to large-scale parks.

This will be Delhi’s first large Oxygen Park.

The establishment of the Forest City Park reflects a strategic attempt to link environmental sustainability with socio-economic development. By targeting 'backward areas' for high-visibility green projects and backing them with a significant budget allocation, the administration is attempting to address both the public health crisis of air pollution and the political necessity of rural development within the urban sprawl.
