Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Delhi-NCR increased by Rs 1 per kilogram on Saturday [1].
This price surge affects thousands of commuters and commercial drivers who rely on the cleaner fuel alternative to petrol and diesel. Because the region depends heavily on CNG for public transport and ride-sharing services, frequent price hikes directly increase the cost of living and operational expenses for transport providers.
The new rates place CNG at Rs 80.09 per kilogram in Delhi [1]. In Noida and Ghaziabad, the price has risen to Rs 88.70 per kilogram [1]. This represents the second price increase within a single week for residents of the National Capital Region.
Earlier this month, on May 15, prices had already risen by Rs 2 per kilogram [4]. This latest adjustment brings the cumulative price hike for the week to Rs 3 per kilogram [5].
Industry reports said that the volatility is driven by external pressures. Rising tensions in West Asia and disruptions in the global oil supply are pushing fuel prices higher across India [3]. These geopolitical factors have created a ripple effect, impacting the cost of energy imports and domestic retail pricing.
The repeated increases occur during a period of heightened sensitivity to inflation. For many residents in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad, the rapid succession of hikes adds a financial burden to daily commutes, and logistics.
“CNG prices in Delhi-NCR increased by Rs 1 per kilogram on Saturday”
The rapid succession of CNG price hikes in the Delhi-NCR region reflects the vulnerability of India's domestic fuel market to geopolitical instability in West Asia. As global oil supply chains face disruptions, the cost of natural gas typically rises, forcing retail providers to pass those costs to consumers. This trend may lead to increased fares for public transport and auto-rickshaws in the capital region.
