The upcoming video game Denshattack! combines skateboarding mechanics with high-speed rail travel in a colorful Japanese dystopia [1, 3].

The title represents a fusion of several influential gaming genres, attempting to merge the technical trick systems of Tony Hawk with the aesthetic and graffiti-driven world of Jet Set Radio [1, 3]. By applying these urban sports elements to trains, the developers are introducing a high-velocity variation of the extreme sports genre.

Game Director David Jaumandreau and Lead Producer Angel Beltran Palau discussed the project during an appearance on the Beyond show [1, 2]. The interview, which appeared in episode 953 [3] or 951 [2], detailed how the gameplay allows players to flip, trick, and grind their trains during fast-paced rides [3].

Jaumandreau said the concept originated about four years ago [1]. He said the idea was born from his personal interest in high-speed rail and a desire to combine his favorite SEGA titles and other gaming classics [1, 3].

"Nothing in the world beats riding high‑speed rail for the first time," Jaumandreau said [1].

The setting of the game is described as a vibrant, dystopian version of Japan [3]. This backdrop serves as the canvas for the game's high-speed action, where the train itself becomes the primary tool for performing maneuvers [3].

"Denshattack! is a game where you flip, trick and grind your train in a fast‑paced, off‑the‑rails ride through a colourful Japanese dystopia," Jaumandreau said [3].

"Nothing in the world beats riding high‑speed rail for the first time."

Denshattack! attempts to capitalize on the nostalgia for early 2000s arcade-style sports games while introducing a unique mechanical twist. By shifting the focus from skateboards to trains, the developers are testing whether the 'extreme sports' gameplay loop can be successfully adapted to a larger, faster vehicle within a stylized setting.
