Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, chief of Bageshwar Dham, condemned the alleged embezzlement of donations and jewelry offered at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.
The reaction comes amid concerns that the theft of religious offerings undermines the spiritual trust of millions of devotees. Because the Ram Mandir is a focal point of faith for Hindus globally, allegations of financial misconduct at the site carry significant social and religious weight.
Speaking from Jakarta, Indonesia, Shastri said the incident was a theft of faith. He compared the act to the mythological abduction of Sita, stating that while Ravana only abducted Mata Janaki, the faith of lakhs [1] of people has been stolen from the Ram Mandir donation box.
Shastri said that Ravan has only changed form. He warned that those accused of stealing offerings will face not only legal consequences but also divine punishment.
The spiritual leader emphasized that the theft extends beyond monetary value. He said the loss of these offerings was a direct assault on the devotion of the people who contributed to the temple.
“The faith of lakhs of people has been stolen from the Ram Mandir donation box.”
The condemnation by a high-profile spiritual leader like Dhirendra Krishna Shastri elevates the alleged scandal from a legal matter of embezzlement to a moral and spiritual crisis. By framing the theft as a betrayal of devotee faith rather than a simple crime, Shastri increases public pressure for a transparent investigation and strict accountability for those managing the temple's assets.
