BJP leader and West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh said justice will prevail after a police FIR was filed against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee.
The legal action marks a sharpening of tensions between the state's two dominant political forces. The case centers on allegations that Banerjee used his platform to incite unrest through hate speech, challenging the TMC's image of governance in the region.
According to Ghosh, the FIR was lodged because Banerjee delivered speeches that were provocative, threatening, and inflammatory [2]. The BJP leader used the development to criticize the broader leadership of the Trinamool Congress, suggesting that the party has overstepped its authority in West Bengal.
"Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and their leaders have acted tyrannically," Ghosh said [1].
The minister said that legal proceedings are necessary to hold the MP accountable for his rhetoric. He indicated that the filing of the first information report is a step toward ensuring that the law is applied equally to all political figures, regardless of their position in the government.
"Justice will prevail," Ghosh said [1].
The conflict comes amid a broader political struggle in Kolkata and across the state. Ghosh has previously linked the current political climate to a shift in voter sentiment, suggesting that the TMC is now on the back foot as legal and political pressures mount [1].
Ghosh said that the FIR has been lodged against Abhishek Banerjee for delivering provocative, threatening, and inflammatory speeches [2]. He maintained that the judiciary and police must act to prevent the use of inflammatory language in public discourse.
“"Justice will prevail."”
This escalation reflects the deep polarization in West Bengal's political landscape, where legal filings are frequently used as strategic tools in the rivalry between the BJP and TMC. By framing the FIR as a victory for justice over 'tyranny,' the BJP is attempting to delegitimize the TMC leadership and appeal to voters concerned with law and order.
