This release highlights the accelerating shift of gallium-nitride, or GaN, from its traditional use in LED lighting to high-capacity power applications. By replacing silicon with GaN, manufacturers can produce charging bricks that are significantly smaller while delivering more power to devices.
The new DJI Power charger provides a maximum output of 140W [1]. This represents a jump in power capacity compared to many other GaN chargers currently on the market, which are typically rated up to about 100W [2].
GaN material is preferred for these applications because it provides higher efficiency and a smaller form-factor than silicon [2]. This allows for faster and more compact power delivery, reducing the bulk of the hardware without sacrificing the speed of the charge.
