Indian Ambassador Ashish Sinha said Estonia can serve as India’s gateway to northern Europe to expand trade and digital cooperation.

This strategic positioning aims to provide Indian businesses easier access to northern European markets while promoting Estonian products in India. The move leverages Estonia's reputation for digital innovation to deepen bilateral ties.

Sinha said the relationship between the two nations is on a strong growth path. He said there was a 150% increase in Indian exports to Estonia [3], which underscores the current trajectory of the partnership.

According to Sinha, the upcoming India-EU Free Trade Agreement will be a pivotal factor in this expansion. He said, "With the India‑EU FTA, Estonia will become a crucial entry point for Indian businesses into northern Europe" [4].

The cooperation focuses on several high-tech sectors. Sinha said there are opportunities for collaboration in technology, digital innovation, and cyber-security [1, 2].

The ambassador said Estonia, and specifically its capital Tallinn, is well-positioned to act as a hub for Indian companies looking to enter the broader northern European market [1, 5]. This strategy includes increasing cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises as the FTA is implemented [6].

"Estonia can be India's gateway to northern Europe," Sinha said [1].

"Estonia can be India's gateway to northern Europe."

By utilizing Estonia as a digital and logistical hub, India is attempting to diversify its European trade footprint beyond traditional partners. The emphasis on cyber-security and digital innovation aligns with Estonia's status as a global leader in e-governance, potentially allowing Indian tech firms to scale more efficiently within the EU regulatory framework once the free trade agreement is finalized.
