Genesis will debut its flagship GV90 Neolun electric SUV in September 2026 [4] as a 2028 model year vehicle [3].
The launch marks a strategic move by the luxury brand of Hyundai Motor Group to challenge established ultra-luxury manufacturers. By incorporating high-end appointments typically reserved for bespoke vehicles, Genesis aims to attract a new tier of wealthy buyers.
The GV90 Neolun is designed as an ultra-luxury challenger to brands such as Rolls-Royce. A primary feature of the vehicle is the inclusion of pillar-less coach doors, which allow for a more seamless entry and exit from the cabin. While some reports describe these as a featured option, others suggest they are a central component of the flagship's identity.
Inside the cabin, the vehicle emphasizes materials and comfort. The interior includes heated wood-flooring, cashmere, and stone trim, and swiveling lounge seats. These appointments are intended to transform the SUV into a mobile lounge rather than a traditional transport vehicle.
Under the hood, the electric powertrain delivers 657 hp [1]. Genesis estimates the vehicle will provide an electric range of 316 miles [2] on a single charge. The combination of high power output and luxury amenities positions the GV90 at the top of the brand's current lineup.
The vehicle was first previewed at the 2024 New York International Auto Show. The official launch is expected to take place in Seoul, South Korea, where the brand will showcase the final production specifications of the Neolun trim.
This rollout follows a period of aggressive expansion for Genesis as it seeks to move beyond the traditional luxury segment into the ultra-luxury realm. The GV90 represents the most ambitious attempt to date to merge high-performance electric propulsion with extreme interior opulence.
“Genesis aims to position the GV90 as an ultra-luxury challenger to brands like Rolls-Royce.”
The introduction of the GV90 Neolun signals a shift in the electric vehicle market, where luxury is no longer defined solely by technology and range, but by bespoke craftsmanship and architectural boldness. By adopting coach doors and exotic materials, Genesis is attempting to break the historical monopoly that a few European marques hold over the 'ultra-luxury' designation, potentially forcing competitors to accelerate their own luxury interior innovations.
