The GEOpark residential development has received the 2026 [1] Canada Green Building Council’s Inspiring Home Award as Kingston's first zero-carbon designed residential building.

This recognition marks a milestone for urban development in Ontario, establishing a new benchmark for sustainable housing in a city previously without a zero-carbon residential project.

Located at 485 Albert Street in Kingston, Ontario, the project was completed in 2026 [1]. The development was led by Podium in collaboration with several institutional partners, including Vestcor, OPTrust, Secure Capital, and Blue Vista Capital Management, LLC [1].

"Podium, alongside its institutional partners — Vestcor, OPTrust, Secure Capital, and Blue Vista Capital Management, LLC — is pleased to announce that its recently completed residential development, GEOpark, has been awarded the 2026 [1] Canada Green Building Council’s Inspiring Home Award," Podium said [1].

The award highlights the project's commitment to reducing the environmental impact of high-density housing. The building represents a significant step toward sustainable urban development through its specialized design and carbon-neutral goals [2].

By integrating zero-carbon standards, the partners aimed to address the growing need for energy-efficient living spaces. The project serves as a primary example of how institutional investment can drive the adoption of green building certifications in mid-sized Canadian cities [1].

GEOpark is recognized as Kingston's first zero-carbon designed residential building.

The recognition of GEOpark signals a shift in the Canadian real estate market toward mandatory carbon neutrality. As the first of its kind in Kingston, the project provides a scalable model for other municipalities to implement zero-carbon residential standards, potentially influencing future zoning laws and building codes across Ontario.
