Five German Air Force Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon fighter aircraft will be stationed at the 23rd Tactical Aviation Base in Mińsk Mazowiecki, Poland [1], [2].
This deployment represents a strategic shift in regional security, placing advanced German interceptors on NATO's eastern flank to deter potential aggression. The move integrates Luftwaffe assets directly into Polish airspace infrastructure to enhance response times.
The announcement regarding the deployment was made on Aug. 4, 2024 [1]. According to the Dowództwo Operacyjne Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych (DORSZ), the aircraft are arriving "w ramach wzmacniania kolektywnej obrony NATO" — as part of strengthening NATO's collective defence [3].
The 23rd Tactical Aviation Base [4] will host the five aircraft [1], adding a layer of multi-national capability to the site. The base already operates a fleet of Polish FA-50 aircraft, and the addition of the Eurofighters creates a mixed-fleet environment for tactical operations.
Local military traditions remain central to the base's identity despite the influx of foreign assets. A TVN24 narrator said the only thing that has not changed is the pride in being the heirs to the tradition of Squadron 303, which fought in the Battle of Britain [5].
The deployment of the EF-2000 Typhoon brings one of the most capable multi-role fighters in the alliance to the region. These aircraft are designed for both air superiority and ground attack, providing a versatile tool for the alliance's eastern perimeter.

The stationing of German fighter jets in Poland signals a deepening of military integration between two of Europe's largest armies. By placing Luftwaffe assets at the 23rd Tactical Aviation Base, NATO reduces the logistical gap between its central command and its eastern border, creating a more permanent and agile deterrent presence in the region.
