French authorities are coordinating the evacuation of massive quantities of charred pine trees in Gironde following a megafire in late July [1].

Reports on the volume of wood to be removed vary significantly. Despite the discrepancy in volume, the timeline for treating the affected wood is expected to span nearly two years [1].
To combat the fire's spread, emergency crews previously established 170 km of tactical cuts [3]. These clearings served as a primary defense against the flames, but the remaining dead timber now poses a secondary threat to the region.
"The time is pressing, we must cut and evacuate the charred pines as quickly as possible," a representative of the wood industry said [2].
