Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter said the couple appears content with their current lives in the United States. This observation follows patterns noted during King Charles III’s state visit to the U.S. in May 2023, where the couple did not signal a desire to reintegrate into the royal structure.
"Meghan is very much settled in California," Arbiter said. "There is no indication from either of them that they want to re‑embrace that official working role."
Unnamed palace sources have echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are fully established in their Californian residence. The transition away from the royal fold has been marked by a move toward private ventures and a departure from the rigid protocols of the court.
While the couple has maintained their titles, the absence of any move toward a working agreement indicates a continued preference for independence over the constraints of the crown. The distance between the couple and the palace remains significant—both geographically and operationally.
