Firefighters extinguished two separate blazes at a household-goods factory in Hwaseong and an apartment building in Seoul on Saturday [1].
These incidents highlight the ongoing risks of industrial and residential fires in densely populated regions of Gyeonggi Province and the capital city.
The first fire broke out at a household-goods manufacturing plant in Manseok-gu, Hwaseong city, around 4 p.m. [1]. Approximately 20 factory workers evacuated the premises on their own as the fire spread [1]. Emergency crews battled the blaze for roughly seven hours and 40 minutes before it was fully extinguished [1].
Shortly after the factory fire began, a second incident occurred in the Chang-dong neighborhood of Dobong-gu, Seoul [1]. At approximately 7:30 p.m., a fire erupted on the eighth floor of an 18-story apartment building [1]. Firefighters managed to bring the residential blaze under control after about one hour and 40 minutes [1].
Despite the scale of the factory fire and the height of the apartment building, no injuries were reported in either incident [1]. "There were no injured people," said YTN reporter Lim Ye-jin [1].
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of either fire [1]. Investigators are currently working to determine the origin of the sparks, and the total extent of the property damage at both the industrial site and the residential complex [1].
“No injuries were reported in either incident.”
The simultaneous occurrence of an industrial fire and a high-rise residential blaze puts pressure on regional emergency response coordination. While the lack of casualties suggests effective evacuation protocols, the extended duration of the factory fire indicates the high fuel load typically found in household-goods manufacturing, which often requires prolonged suppression efforts.
