India's Defence Research & Development Organisation conducted the maiden flight test of Project Kusha, an indigenous long-range surface-to-air missile system.

DRDO's focus on an indigenous "desi" version of high-altitude air defence follows a broader national policy to localize the production of critical weapon systems. This move is intended to ensure a secure supply chain and allow for custom modifications based on India's specific geographic and strategic needs.

The maiden flight confirms the basic aerodynamic and propulsion viability of the Project Kusha interceptors. Further testing will likely focus on radar integration, command-and-control synchronization, and target acquisition accuracy before the system moves toward full-scale production.
