Congress party leaders and BJP representatives clashed during a televised debate over rising food inflation and the cost of essential commodities.

Congress National Spokesperson Pankhuri Pathak said the BJP government has failed to address a 40% [1] jump in sugar prices. Pathak said the price spike is due to the government's decision to divert sugarcane toward ethanol production rather than food supply.
"The BJP doesn't have answers. It only has excuses," Pathak said.
BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya said the price increase is the result of falling sugar production rather than the diversion of crops to ethanol production.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also participated in the discourse, posing questions regarding the link between ethanol policies and the current price spike. The debate, broadcast by India Today, focused on whether current agricultural policies are prioritizing industrial fuel goals over the affordability of basic food items for the public.
