Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the NEET UG re-exam will take place on June 21, 2026 [1].

The move follows a paper-leak controversy that forced the cancellation of the original exam scheduled for May 3, 2026 [2]. This shift to digital testing represents a major overhaul of India's medical entrance process to prevent systemic fraud.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, Pradhan targeted organized crime rings involved in academic dishonesty. He said, "We have zero tolerance towards the education mafia."

To ensure accountability, the minister confirmed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is handling the probe into the leak. Pradhan said, "CBI will not spare anyone."

Beyond the immediate re-examination, the government is changing how the test is administered to reduce the risk of physical paper leaks. Pradhan said, "From next year, NEET will be conducted on a computer-based platform" [3]. This transition to a computer-based format is slated for 2027 [4].

The decision comes amid significant public outrage over the integrity of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The government is attempting to restore trust in the competitive examination system, a critical gateway for students seeking medical degrees in India.

Pradhan said that the administration remains committed to fighting the "exam mafia" to protect the interests of honest students. The CBI investigation remains active as officials seek to identify the source of the breach and those who profited from the leak.

"We have zero tolerance towards the education mafia"

The transition to computer-based testing for NEET suggests that the Indian government views physical paper distribution as an irrecoverable security vulnerability. By digitizing the process and involving the CBI, the administration is attempting to signal a shift from reactive punishment to systemic prevention, though the success of this move will depend on the cybersecurity of the new platform.
