Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed a bilateral Youth Business Exchange for entrepreneurs from India and New Zealand during a visit to Auckland.
The initiative aims to deepen the partnership between the two nations by fostering a new generation of leaders through direct collaboration and innovation. By connecting young professionals, the program seeks to build sustainable economic ties and shared technological growth.
The proposal was made during the India-New Zealand Business and Sports Engagement event in Auckland. Under the proposed framework, delegations of entrepreneurs under 35 years [1] from both countries would meet to collaborate on business ventures and exchange expertise.
This exchange is part of a broader strategic effort to strengthen bilateral relations. Modi said India is a launchpad for global growth during the visit, emphasizing the potential for mutual economic expansion.
In addition to the youth initiative, the two countries are focusing on trade liberalization. The leaders discussed the progress of a Free Trade Agreement, with negotiations having spanned nine months [2].
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon joined Modi in outlining a vision for the partnership leading toward 2030. The youth exchange is intended to serve as a cornerstone for this long-term strategy, ensuring that innovation remains central to the diplomatic and economic relationship between the two nations.
“delegations of entrepreneurs under 35 years”
The proposal of a Youth Business Exchange signals a shift toward 'people-to-people' economic diplomacy. By targeting entrepreneurs under 35, India and New Zealand are attempting to bypass traditional bureaucratic trade barriers and instead build a network of private-sector allies who can drive innovation independently of government cycles.
