The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) launched a portal to help citizens recover unclaimed financial assets.

This initiative aims to return forgotten wealth to rightful owners or their legal heirs. By streamlining the identification process, the government intends to reduce the total volume of unclaimed money currently held within the national financial system.

The push targets several types of forgotten assets, including bank deposits, insurance policies, shares, dividends, and mutual funds. According to reports, millions of Indians may have unclaimed money across these various financial instruments [1]. The portal serves as a centralized point for users to search for assets that have remained dormant or unnoticed over time.

Under the new system, the RBI handles the recovery of bank deposits, while SEBI manages investment assets, and IRDAI oversees insurance proceeds. This coordinated effort across the three primary regulators is designed to eliminate the bureaucratic hurdles citizens previously faced when attempting to track down lost funds.

Legal heirs are also encouraged to use the platform to claim assets belonging to relatives who died. The portal provides a mechanism to verify ownership and initiate the reclamation process through the respective regulatory bodies.

Financial regulators said the goal is to ensure that capital does not remain stagnant in the system. By providing a digital interface, the authorities seek to increase transparency and accessibility for the general public regarding their financial holdings.

This coordinated effort by India's three major financial regulators represents a shift toward digital transparency in asset management. By consolidating the search for unclaimed funds, the government is attempting to resolve a long-standing issue of dormant capital and provide a legal pathway for heirs to recover family wealth.
