Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged BRICS member states to condemn illegal U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran during a meeting in New Delhi [1].
The request highlights Iran's attempt to leverage the expanding BRICS bloc to isolate Western powers and secure diplomatic support against its primary geopolitical adversaries.
Speaking at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Araghchi said that the United States and Israel are committing illegal aggression against Iran and violating international law [1, 3]. He called for the member states to take a formal stand against these actions to prevent further escalation in West Asia [3].
"We call on all BRICS countries to explicitly condemn the violations of international law by the United States and Israel," Araghchi said [1].
Araghchi attributed the lack of international intervention to the behavior of Western nations. He said that Western silence on crimes is possible only because of a false sense of impunity [2].
According to reports from the meeting, the Iranian minister emphasized that Tehran will not bow to the pressures of the U.S. and Israel [2]. He framed the current conflict as a broader struggle against illegal aggression and urged the bloc to prioritize the end of the West Asian conflict [3].
"The United States and Israel are launching illegal aggression against Iran," Araghchi said [3].
The meeting in India served as a platform for Araghchi to argue that the existing international legal framework is being ignored by Western powers, a sentiment he hopes the BRICS nations will formally validate through a joint condemnation [1, 2].
“"We call on all BRICS countries to explicitly condemn the violations of international law by the United States and Israel."”
Iran's appeal to BRICS represents a strategic shift toward non-Western diplomatic architectures to counter U.S. influence. By seeking a formal condemnation from a bloc that includes major economies like China and India, Tehran is attempting to establish a multilateral legitimacy for its positions and challenge the perceived impunity of Western military and political actions in the Middle East.
