Iran announced a suspension of its military operations against Israel on Monday, describing the move as a conditional ceasefire.
This halt comes after a period of intense escalation in the Middle East, where a failure to maintain a truce could trigger a wider regional conflict involving Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz. The suspension follows at least three missile barrages launched by Iran toward Israel [1].
An Iranian armed forces spokesperson said, "We have suspended military operations, but the ceasefire remains conditional."
The decision follows diplomatic intervention from U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump said, "I will tell Netanyahu not to strike back."
Despite the current halt, Iran warned that any renewal of Israeli hostilities would lead to a more severe response. The Fars News Agency said, "Iran will launch harsher attacks if Israel resumes attacks on Lebanon."
Iranian officials said the operations were paused to avoid further escalation. However, the military maintained that any future Israeli strikes would trigger responses described as crushing.
The announcement follows reports of a "painful response" delivered by Iran prior to the cessation of attacks. While some reports suggest a general halt, Iranian military leadership continues to emphasize that the stability of the ceasefire depends on Israeli restraint.
“"We have suspended military operations, but the ceasefire remains conditional."”
The conditional nature of this ceasefire indicates a fragile stability. By linking the halt of operations to Israeli actions in Lebanon, Iran is expanding the geographical stakes of the conflict. The involvement of the US presidency suggests a diplomatic effort to prevent a full-scale war, but the threat of 'crushing' responses indicates that the underlying strategic tensions remain unresolved.
