A southward-moving rainy-season front will bring rain to western Japan and Tohoku through the morning of June 9, 2024 [1].
These shifting weather patterns signal the progression of the seasonal rains, affecting travel and temperature across the archipelago as a low-pressure system approaches the north.
According to the TBS NEWS DIG weather team, rain in western Japan and Tohoku is expected to last only until the morning [2]. Conditions are then forecast to gradually improve through the night [1]. However, northern Japan will face different conditions as a low-pressure system moves closer, leaving Hokkaido with rain throughout the day [1].
Temperatures are expected to climb in northern regions. Sendai is forecast to reach 25 °C [1], a temperature classified as a summer day. This represents an increase of approximately five degrees compared to the previous day [1].
Other regions face varying levels of instability. Coastal Pacific areas may experience showers, and the Amami Islands are expected to see stronger rain and wind during the night [1].
"Rain from western Japan to Tohoku will last until the morning, and in many places, the weather will gradually recover toward the night," the TBS NEWS DIG weather team said [1].
Regarding the north, the team said, "A low-pressure system is approaching northern Japan, and it will be a day of rain in Hokkaido" [1].
On the temperature rise in the north, the team said, "In Sendai, it looks like it will be about 5 °C higher than today, and a summer day is expected" [1].
“Rain in western Japan and Tohoku is expected to last only until the morning.”
The movement of the rainy-season front, combined with a northern low-pressure system, creates a split weather pattern across Japan. While the south and center transition toward clearer skies, the north experiences a combination of heavy precipitation and unseasonably warm temperatures, typical of the volatile transition into the summer months.
