Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren cancelled the JSSC-CGL exam and other tests conducted by the TDPL examination body on Monday.
The decision follows weeks of unrest in the state capital, Ranchi, where students protested alleged irregularities in the recruitment process. This move signals a government effort to restore public trust in the state's civil service entry systems.
The announcement came on the 25th day [1] of student protests. Demonstrators had been mobilizing for approximately three and a half weeks [2] before the administration acceded to their primary demands.
Students have raised concerns regarding the integrity of recruitment exams, with some allegations of irregularities dating back to 2014 [3]. The protesters sought a complete scrap of the current process to ensure a fair, and transparent examination for all candidates.
In addition to the JSSC-CGL exam, the Chief Minister cancelled other exams managed by the TDPL examination body. The administration said the cancellations are necessary to address the grievances of the student community and ensure the recruitment process is beyond reproach.
The protests had created significant disruptions in Ranchi, as students gathered to demand accountability from the examination authorities. By accepting the demands, the state government aims to end the deadlock that has persisted for nearly a month.

The cancellation of these exams highlights a growing tension between the youth of Jharkhand and the state's administrative bodies over the transparency of government hiring. By yielding to the protesters, the Soren administration acknowledges systemic failures in the TDPL examination body, but the government now faces the logistical challenge of rescheduling exams without further delaying the recruitment of essential civil servants.
