Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu at 10 a.m. [1] on Sunday at Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
This transition marks the end of decades of rule by the DMK and AIADMK parties, signaling a significant shift in the state's political landscape under the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Vijay took the oath of office alongside nine [2] TVK leaders who will form his cabinet. The formation of this government follows a closely contested election where the TVK secured 117 [3] seats in the 234-member Assembly. Because the majority threshold is 118 [4] seats, the party obtained external support from parties such as the Left to enable the government's formation.
During the proceedings, Vijay addressed the transition of power and the structure of his administration. "There is only one power centre," Vijay said.
The event drew significant attention as the TVK establishes its first-ever government. The party's rise to power follows a period of intense mobilization, during which it sought to meet the threshold of 50 lakh [5] votes required for official party recognition.
The ceremony at Nehru Stadium served as the formal inauguration of a compact administration. By limiting the cabinet to nine [2] members, Vijay has opted for a lean executive structure as he begins his tenure as chief minister.

The ascent of Joseph Vijay represents a disruption of the long-standing bipolar political dominance of the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. By leveraging celebrity influence and securing external support to bridge a one-seat gap to the majority, the TVK has successfully transitioned from a newly recognized political entity to the governing power, shifting the state's administrative focus toward a new party platform.
