EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said NATO unity is vital for maintaining stability and security across the European continent.

This call for cohesion comes as the alliance navigates complex geopolitical tensions and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Kallas said she is emphasizing the necessity of a synchronized front to ensure the effectiveness of collective defense mechanisms.

During a one-on-one interview with TRT World, Kallas focused on the requirement for expanded assistance to Kyiv. She said, "We need more support for Ukraine and recognise Turkey’s strategic importance in the alliance."

The High Representative said Turkey plays a critical role within the NATO framework. This strategic importance is central to the alliance's ability to manage regional security and maintain a bridge between different geopolitical interests.

Beyond her focus on NATO and Ukraine, Kallas has maintained a busy diplomatic schedule this month. Records indicate she visited Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1 and July 2 [1].

Kallas said the current security environment requires a renewed commitment to shared goals. She said, "NATO unity is vital."

The interview highlighted the EU's effort to align its foreign policy goals with the strategic capabilities of NATO member states. By publicly acknowledging the role of Turkey, the EU High Representative is signaling a desire for continued cooperation and stability within the alliance's southeastern flank.

NATO unity is vital.

Kallas's public emphasis on Turkey's strategic role suggests a diplomatic effort to ensure Ankara remains fully aligned with EU and NATO objectives regarding Ukraine. By linking the necessity of NATO unity with specific recognition of Turkey's importance, the EU is attempting to mitigate potential friction within the alliance while pushing for a more aggressive support posture for Kyiv.
