According to ANNnewsCH, sunny areas are expanding across the region, but the northern and mountain-rim areas remain volatile [1]. On July 20, temperatures in Maebashi are expected to reach 37°C [1]. Forecasters said that the heat in the north and along the mountains may cause rain clouds to develop, creating a risk of thunderstorms during the afternoon [1].
The heat is expected to intensify further as the week progresses. In Maebashi, the maximum temperature is projected to rise to 39°C by July 22 [1]. Similarly, Kumagaya is forecast to hit 39°C between July 21 and July 22 [1]. Tokyo is also expected to experience high temperatures, with a forecast maximum of 37°C on July 22 [1].
Local authorities and meteorologists said that these sudden shifts are typical of high-summer instability in the region. The expansion of sunny weather does not eliminate the risk of localized, severe weather events in the higher elevations of the Kanto region [1, 2].
