Educationist Faisal Khan, known as Khan Sir, will file an anticipatory bail plea on Monday [2].
The legal move follows a violent incident at his Patna coaching centre, where firing and vandalism occurred. The case highlights the volatile intersection of private education and public security in Bihar, as one of the region's most prominent educators faces potential detention.
The legal proceedings stem from an attack on the coaching centre that took place on June 2, 2024 [1]. While the details of the incident remain under investigation, the subsequent legal fallout has placed Khan Sir in the center of a court battle in the Patna Civil Court.
His legal representative said that the educationist does not intend to turn himself in to authorities at this time. The defense is instead pursuing a legal mechanism to prevent arrest before the court can review the merits of the case.
"We will not be surrendering before the court; we intend to file an anticipatory bail application on Monday," Khan Sir's lawyer said [1].
The application for anticipatory bail is scheduled to be filed on June 8, 2024 [2]. This strategy allows the accused to remain free while the court decides if there is sufficient cause for arrest, or if bail should be granted in advance.
Khan Sir operates a well-known coaching centre in Patna and has gained significant popularity across India for his teaching methods. The current legal situation arises from the aftermath of the June 2 attack, which involved reports of firing at the facility [1].
“"We will not be surrendering before the court; we intend to file an anticipatory bail application on Monday."”
The decision to seek anticipatory bail rather than surrendering suggests a strategic legal effort to avoid pre-trial detention. In the Indian legal system, this allows an individual to challenge the necessity of their arrest, which is critical for a public figure like Khan Sir to maintain his professional operations while the investigation into the June 2 attack continues.
