Authorities in Kochi have started a digital survey for the construction of the Thammanam–Pullepady Road project.
The project is intended to alleviate chronic traffic congestion in the city by improving east-west connectivity between major transit hubs.
The plan involves widening and extending the road to create a four-lane [1] thoroughfare. The completed route will span 3.7 km [1], linking MG Road with the Edappally–Vyttila NH 66 Bypass. This infrastructure update is designed to streamline vehicle flow across these critical junctions.
Public Works Minister P K Basheer said the project had been in limbo for nearly three decades. He said the initiative is finally set to see the light of day.
Administrative sanction for the work has been announced, and the current digital survey serves as the foundational step for the construction process. The project carries an estimated cost of 100 crore [2].
The Kochi Municipal Corporation is coordinating the efforts to ensure the road meets modern transit requirements. The digital survey will provide precise measurements and mapping to avoid delays during the physical construction phase, a necessary step for a project that has faced decades of stagnation.
“The Thammanam-Pullepady road project, which had been in limbo for nearly three decades, is set to see the light of day.”
The commencement of the digital survey signals a transition from planning to execution for a project that has historically stalled. By connecting MG Road to the NH 66 Bypass, the city aims to create a strategic bypass for commuters, potentially reducing the load on central Kochi's narrower arteries and supporting the city's growing urban density.
