Udupi police arrested Derrick Crasta on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2024 [5], for the murder of business associate Ivan Mascarenhas.
The arrest concludes a rapid investigation into a violent crime that shocked the local community near the Holy Rosary Church on Church Road.
Investigators said the killing occurred on July 31, 2024 [1], at approximately 3:30 a.m. [2]. The victim, Mascarenhas, was 45 years old [3]. According to police, the motive for the attack was a financial dispute between the two business associates [4].
To locate the suspect, the Udupi police formed three separate teams [4]. These teams tracked Crasta following the discovery of the body in Kundapur, located in the Udupi district of Karnataka.
The suspect was taken into custody on Aug. 1, 2024 [5], shortly after the crime took place. Police said the motive was linked directly to the monetary disagreements between the accused and the deceased businessman [4].
