Portland-based indie-folk singer-songwriter Laura Veirs announced her new album, *Temple Songs*, and released the lead single “Flying Into Darkness” on Monday [1, 2, 3].
The project marks a significant creative return for Veirs, who previously questioned whether she would ever write songs again [3, 2].
The album is slated for release on Aug. 14 [2]. It will be released via Raven Marching Band Records [2].
Veirs took a DIY approach to the production of the new record. She recorded the material in a newly built studio located in her own backyard in Portland, Oregon [2, 1]. The recording process was minimal, utilizing only two microphones and a laptop [2].
This self-produced method reflects a shift in her creative process. After a period of uncertainty regarding her songwriting future, Veirs decided to return to the craft by building her own recording space [3, 2]. The resulting work, *Temple Songs*, represents a personal transition back into active music production.
While the lead single is now available, the full album remains the primary focus of the upcoming release cycle. The use of a home-based studio allowed Veirs to maintain full control over the sonic environment of the project [2, 1].
“Laura Veirs announced her new album Temple Songs”
The shift toward a DIY, home-studio recording process suggests a move toward greater artistic independence and a rejection of traditional studio overhead. By producing the album herself after a period of creative doubt, Veirs is positioning *Temple Songs* as a raw, personal recovery of her songwriting identity.
