Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Lucknow on Monday to inaugurate the Lucknow-Kanpur NE-6 Expressway [1].

The new expressway spans 63 kilometers [1] and was completed at a total project cost of ₹4,700 crore [1]. By bypassing congested local routes, the highway is expected to reduce travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur from approximately two hours to about 35 minutes [2].
Singh, who serves as the Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, led the inauguration ceremony on July 13, 2026 [1]. The event marks the final phase of construction for the NE-6 corridor, which serves as a critical link in the region's transport network.
Public traffic is scheduled to begin on the expressway on July 14, 2024 [1]. Officials said the route will allow for faster movement of goods and people, supporting the broader goal of regional infrastructure development [2].
Lucknow is also being positioned as an important center for defence production, a development Singh said in connection with the city's growing industrial capacity [3]. The completion of the expressway is expected to facilitate the logistics required for such industrial expansion.
