Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway on Monday.
The project aims to reduce regional transit times and improve connectivity between two of Uttar Pradesh's largest urban centers. By streamlining the route, the government intends to foster economic growth and ease congestion on existing roads.
Spanning 63 kilometers [1], the new expressway was inaugurated at Unnao. The infrastructure project represents a significant investment in the state's transport network, with a total project cost of ₹4,200 crore [2].
Officials said the expressway will transform the commute between Lucknow and Kanpur. Travel time is expected to drop from around three hours to approximately 40 minutes [3]. This reduction is intended to facilitate the faster movement of goods and people across the region.
Nitin Gadkari said the completion of the project was a "historic achievement" [4]. The inauguration included other road projects in Uttar Pradesh, signaling a broader push for infrastructure development in the state.
While some reports suggested the road features AI-guided technology, verified government and primary news sources did not confirm these claims. The official focus remains on the physical capacity and speed of the 63-km corridor [1].
“Travel time is expected to drop from around three hours to approximately 40 minutes.”
The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is part of a larger strategic effort by the Indian government to create high-speed corridors that link industrial hubs. By reducing a three-hour trip to 40 minutes, the project effectively integrates the two cities into a single economic zone, likely increasing land value and industrial investment in the Unnao region.
