Pakatan Harapan coalition parties have unveiled their candidate lists for the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election scheduled for Aug. 1 [2, 3].

The results of this election are critical for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his coalition. The group is seeking a strong showing in Negeri Sembilan to recover political momentum after suffering a crushing defeat in the Johor state election on July 11 [1, 5].

Aminuddin Harun said the coalition has divided the 36 total seats [3, 4] among its member parties. PKR will be allocated 16 seats, while DAP will contest 11, and Amanah will contest nine [4].

Preparation for the nomination day has been swift. Datuk Fuziah Salleh said that PKR's list of candidates for the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections was 99 percent complete [6, 7].

The coalition's strategy involves a coordinated effort between PKR, DAP, and Amanah to secure the state. This alignment comes as the government faces pressure to maintain stability across various regional administrations — a challenge exacerbated by recent losses in other states [1, 5].

Nomination day will be held shortly before the Aug. 1 vote [2, 3]. The process will finalize the list of individuals who will represent the coalition in Seremban and other areas across the state [1, 2].

PKR will be allocated 16 of the 36 seats in the Aug. 1 state election

The allocation of seats in Negeri Sembilan reflects a calculated distribution of power within the Pakatan Harapan coalition. By fielding a diverse slate of candidates across PKR, DAP, and Amanah, the coalition is attempting to hedge its bets against the volatility seen in the July 11 Johor election. A failure to secure a strong majority here would further weaken Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's mandate and signal a broader shift in voter sentiment against the current federal administration.
