Marvel is releasing the fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on Aug. 6, 2024 [1].
The title introduces a strategic 4v4 tag-team format to the Marvel universe, aiming to attract competitive gaming audiences through a large roster of established heroes and villains.
Following a free open beta that ran from July 24 to July 26, 2024 [2], the game is preparing for its full digital launch. The beta period allowed the publisher to gather performance data and provide early access to the community [3].
Players can expect a roster featuring more than 30 Marvel characters [4]. The experience centers on tag-team combat, which differs from traditional one-on-one fighting game mechanics.
Marvel said the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC [5]. While some reports mentioned Xbox Series X availability during the beta phase, the primary launch platforms are listed as the Sony console and personal computers [5].
The standard edition of the game is priced at $69.99 [6]. This pricing aligns with current industry standards for major AAA releases on next-generation hardware.
"Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will launch on August 6 for PlayStation 5 and PC," Marvel said in a press release [1].
“Players can expect a 4v4 tag-team experience with a roster of more than 30 Marvel heroes and villains.”
The launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls represents an attempt to modernize the Marvel fighting game formula by shifting from individual combat to a 4v4 team-based system. By utilizing an open beta to refine performance before a high-priced $69.99 launch, Marvel is mitigating the technical risks often associated with complex tag-team mechanics in high-fidelity environments.
