Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre, known as Viveka Smaraka, in Mysuru, Karnataka [1].
The center represents a strategic effort to engage the country's youth by linking spiritual heritage with modern nation-building goals. By establishing a dedicated space for cultural and youth development, the government seeks to foster leadership and civic service among future generations.
Located at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, the facility is designed to serve as a hub for education and inspiration [2]. During the event, Modi emphasized the role of young people in shaping the future of the country. He said the newly established centre is a beacon of inspiration that will prepare future generations of young Indians to serve the nation while embodying the ideals of Swami Vivekananda [3].
Before the inauguration, the Prime Minister visited the city's presiding deity. "I respectfully offered my initial obeisance to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of the city," Modi said [4].
The event drew attention from local leadership, including D. K. Shivakumar. Regarding the importance of the Prime Minister's presence and the accompanying address, Shivakumar said, "I don't want to waste your time. Prime Minister's message is very important for the country" [5].
The center's curriculum and activities are expected to focus on the philosophical teachings of Swami Vivekananda, emphasizing strength, character, and selfless service. The project aligns with broader national initiatives to promote cultural identity and youth empowerment across various states, integrating traditional values with the demands of contemporary citizenship.
“The newly established centre is a beacon of inspiration”
The inauguration of Viveka Smaraka reflects the Indian government's ongoing strategy to utilize cultural and spiritual landmarks to mobilize youth. By anchoring nation-building rhetoric in the legacy of Swami Vivekananda, the administration seeks to create a bridge between traditional Indian values and the socio-economic goals of the modern state.
