V Muraleedharan, a newly elected BJP MLA from Kerala, pledged to work for the state's development and the welfare of its people.
The victory marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Kerala. For the first time, the BJP has secured three seats in the state assembly [1], creating a new precedent for the party's influence in the region.
Muraleedharan arrived at the BJP state-unit office in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, April 28, 2024, where he was welcomed alongside fellow elected MLAs Rajeev Chandrasekhar and B.B. Gopakumar [1]. The gathering served as a formal reception for the representatives following the election results.
"I will work for the welfare of the people of Kerala and for the development of the state," Muraleedharan said [2].
The party viewed the outcome as a landmark achievement for its regional strategy. The three members now represent the party's expanded footprint in a state where it has historically struggled to gain legislative ground.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Kerala BJP chief, highlighted the significance of the win during the welcome ceremony. "The BJP has made history in Kerala with three MLAs; we welcome them with open arms," Chandrasekhar said [1].
As newly elected representatives, the three MLAs pledged to fulfill their electoral promises. They indicated that their primary focus would be contributing to the overall growth of the state through their roles in the assembly [1, 2].
“"I will work for the welfare of the people of Kerala and for the development of the state."”
The election of three BJP MLAs represents a historic breach of the traditional political duopoly in Kerala. By securing multiple seats, the party has moved from a marginal presence to a more established legislative entity, which may force other major parties to adjust their regional strategies to counter the BJP's growing momentum.
