Nick Jonas revealed that he auditioned for the role of Kristoff in Disney’s animated film Frozen but failed to secure the part.
The disclosure provides a rare glimpse into the casting process of one of Disney's most successful musical franchises. It highlights that even established performers face rejection during high-profile auditions.
Speaking on the Hey Jonas! podcast on Aug. 18, 2023 [1], Jonas shared the experience with his brothers, Kevin and Joe Jonas, and guests Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Josh Gad. He said the experience was a failure, noting that he did not realize he would be sharing the story during the recording.
"Funny story I didn’t realize I would be sharing today until this moment, I auditioned for Frozen. For Kristoff," Jonas said [1]. He recalled a moment of uncertainty during the process when the casting team asked if he intended to sing. Jonas said he responded by saying he did not know.
Following the revelation, Jonas was more direct about the quality of his performance. He said the experience was terrible and that he bombed the audition [2].
While Jonas has maintained a long-standing relationship with Disney through various projects, the role of Kristoff ultimately went to another performer. The singer's account emphasizes the gap between his public success and the private struggles of the audition circuit.
“"It was terrible. I bombed my Frozen audition."”
This anecdote underscores the competitive nature of Disney's voice-casting process, where technical skill and chemistry often outweigh a performer's existing fame. By sharing the failure publicly, Jonas aligns himself with the broader narrative of professional resilience in the entertainment industry.
