The Nirmohi Akhara has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the proper implementation of the 2019 [1] Ayodhya judgment.
The move signals a potential legal challenge to the management of one of India's most significant religious sites. By questioning the current trust's composition and the central government's compliance, the petition threatens to reopen disputes over the administration of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The Nirmohi Akhara, a Hindu religious sect, alleges that the central government has not complied with the court's orders. The petition specifically requests the reconstitution of the trust that manages the site in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh [2].
According to the sect, the government has failed to provide the Akhara with its proper role within the trust structure. This legal action comes approximately seven years [1] after the original 2019 [1] Supreme Court judgment settled the long-standing land dispute.
Beyond the issue of representation, the petition includes allegations of corruption. The Nirmohi Akhara accused certain members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust of engaging in corrupt acts [2]. The sect said these failures necessitate a formal review, and restructuring, of the governing body.
The petition asks the court to ensure that the mandates of the previous ruling are fully realized. The Nirmohi Akhara said the lack of adherence to the verdict has undermined the intended governance of the temple site [2].
“The Nirmohi Akhara has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the proper implementation of the 2019 Ayodhya judgment.”
This petition represents a significant attempt to challenge the administrative status quo of the Ram Mandir project. If the court finds that the 2019 verdict was not fully implemented or that corruption exists within the Trust, it could lead to a mandatory reshuffling of the temple's leadership and a shift in how the site is managed by the state and religious bodies.
