Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Monday that the government is extending business-hours relief for commercial centres across Pakistan [1].
This measure allows shopping malls and commercial hubs to operate without adhering to fixed closing times, providing flexibility for businesses and consumers. The extension aims to sustain economic activity by removing restrictive operational windows during the current period.
The relief period, which was officially announced May 18, 2026 [2], now runs until May 31, 2026 [1]. This policy applies to commercial centres nationwide, ensuring that the exemption is consistent across different regions of the country.
Under the current guidelines, the government has waived the standard requirements for closing hours. This allows business owners to determine their own operating schedules based on customer demand and staffing availability, a move designed to support the retail sector.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the extension is part of the government's effort to provide relief to the business community [1]. The decision ensures that commercial activity can continue without the interruption of mandated shutdowns through the end of the month.
“The relief period now runs until 31 May 2026.”
The extension of business-hours relief suggests a government priority to stimulate short-term retail growth and consumer spending. By removing fixed closing times, the administration is shifting operational control to the private sector, which may help businesses recover lost revenue or capitalize on seasonal demand through the end of May.
