Freddy Vega, co-founder and CEO of Platzi, said how artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of education during an interview with RCN Televisión.
This shift in educational delivery matters because AI is fundamentally altering the skills required for the modern workforce, necessitating a rapid pivot in how millions of students learn technical trades.
Speaking on the program "Los 40 de menos de 40" in Colombia, Vega said the growth and impact of Platzi. The educational platform has reached more than seven million learners in the region [1]. Vega said that the integration of AI is central to the company's mission to provide scalable, high-quality training for the digital age.
The scale of the platform's influence is reflected in its physical and virtual gatherings. A recent event gathered more than 6,000 people [2]. Furthermore, Platzi Conf 2025 saw a significant turnout, with over 4,000 in-person attendees and more than 20,000 virtual participants [3, 4].
Vega's focus on AI aligns with broader industry trends. OpenAI, a key player in the AI space, reports that more than one million enterprise customers are now using its tools [5]. This widespread adoption underscores the urgency for educational platforms like Platzi to integrate these technologies into their curricula to keep learners competitive.
The interview, which took place in 2024 [1], emphasized the transition from traditional learning models to AI-driven instruction. Vega said that technology allows for a more personalized approach to education, enabling learners to adapt to the fast-paced changes of the tech industry.
“Platzi has more than seven million learners in the region”
The rapid scaling of Platzi and its pivot toward AI-centric education reflects a broader systemic shift in Latin American labor markets. By leveraging AI tools and large-scale virtual events, the platform is attempting to close the digital skills gap faster than traditional universities can update their curricula, positioning private ed-tech as a primary driver of workforce readiness in the region.
