Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a joint statement at the third [1] India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, Norway, emphasizing shared democratic values.
The meeting serves as a strategic effort to strengthen ties between India and Nordic nations through cooperation in clean energy, research, and sustainability. By aligning on the rule of law and multilateralism, the partners aim to create a stable framework for innovation and economic growth.
Modi said the partnership is a natural alignment based on common political foundations. He focused on the importance of working together to address global challenges through a commitment to international cooperation and the rule of law.
"Namaskar to all of you. I am delighted to have participated in the 3rd [1] India‑Nordic Summit today," Modi said. "First of all, I express heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister of Norway for hosting this Summit. I welcome all Nordic leaders here. Democracy, rule of law and our shared commitment to multilateralism make us natural partners."
The summit took place in 2026 [2] with a specific focus on pushing for deeper ties in the sectors of research and innovation. Modi said the shared values of the participating nations provide a strong basis for long-term strategic partnerships.
Officials said the dialogue centered on sustainability and the transition to clean energy. These priorities are intended to bridge the gap between Indian industrial needs and Nordic technological expertise, creating a synergy for green development.
Throughout the event, the prime minister said the partnership is not merely economic but rooted in a mutual respect for democratic governance. He urged the leaders to continue expanding the scope of their collaboration to ensure stability and progress in a multilateral world.
“Democracy, rule of law and our shared commitment to multilateralism make us natural partners.”
The 3rd India-Nordic Summit signals India's intent to diversify its strategic partnerships by aligning with Northern European nations that prioritize green technology and democratic stability. By focusing on sustainability and innovation, India seeks to leverage Nordic expertise in clean energy to meet its own environmental goals while strengthening its diplomatic footprint in Europe.
