The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) have formed a political alliance to jointly contest the upcoming general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
This strategic partnership represents a consolidation of power between two distinct political entities to improve their collective chances of victory. By coordinating their candidates, the parties aim to avoid splitting the vote and create a more formidable front against opposing candidates.
As part of the agreement, the PPP has withdrawn two of its candidates [1] in favor of the JUI-F. This move is intended to solidify the partnership and ensure the JUI-F has a clear path to victory in specific constituencies.
JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah said the alliance is necessary for the region's political landscape. The decision to align follows discussions on how to maximize the electoral footprint of both parties in the Pakistan-administered region.
The alliance focuses on the AJK polls, where local dynamics often require broad coalitions to secure a majority. The PPP and JUI-F intend to leverage their respective grassroots networks to mobilize voters across the territory.
While the parties operate with different ideological foundations, the shared goal of electoral success in AJK has driven this collaboration. The withdrawal of candidates by the PPP underscores the level of compromise reached between the leadership of both parties to ensure a unified strategy.
“The PPP and JUI-F have formed a political alliance to jointly contest the upcoming general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.”
This alliance signals a pragmatic shift in AJK politics, where ideological differences are being sidelined in favor of electoral arithmetic. By consolidating candidates, the PPP and JUI-F are attempting to neutralize the risk of vote fragmentation, which could otherwise allow smaller or rival parties to win seats with a minority of the total vote.
